We Made a Headboard

Last summer. Haha yep it has taken me THIS long to post about the headboard we made
last year. I can't remember the exact day but it was a holiday and my husband had
the day off. It was many degrees high out but we were determined to do it. We looked at
a bunch of other people's blog posts the night before and kind of used them as
a guide to build our on headboard.
______________

So we first headed over to HD and got us some plywood, stuffed it in the Prius,
drove back home and started the fun.
We drew our shape on a piece of paper and pretty much free handed it on
to a larger piece of paper, then traced that over our plywood
We cut a few pieces of plywood and glued them together because
we needed to get something thick enough to sit on top of our existing headboard
Then we went to Jo-anns and got our fabric, padding, decorative nails, staple gun and staples.
We cut three layers of padding to go on top on the plywood - left a 1" margin
from the edge of the frame. Then we wrapped more padding around the whole
thing and stapled away!
We Ironed our fabric and did the same thing again, stapled, stapled, stapled!
tada!! it already looked so awesome!
But we still needed to add the nails. So we placed them 1" away from the edge
We also added two bars to the back so it would not move or fall over.
This is our bedroom before -ugh I know how sad is that?
And here's the final product! ... for the headboard at least, and you can kind of see some
progress on the rest of the bedroom...
Not bad for a DIY huh? We are in love with it!
and sorry about the tags on the lamps, we're still deciding whether we want to keep those or not

Instagram

Today was the first day of General Conference, and there were some awesome talks! This time GC inspired me to write to my missionary, who is my youngest brother serving in Bolivia. Although he is only able to write us a very short e-mail each week, I feel like I should be writing to him more often. So I decided to tell him about my favorite parts of conference today -and for some reason I thought it would be cool for him to see some pictures of what's going on in my life with an Instragram twist. So I made this sheet with a few photos from my Instagram  acct. :)

First Photoshoot

I am not a photographer and I don't intend to become one
... but ever since we bought a nice camera I've been trying to
practice and better my photo-taking skills. So I signed up for my very first photography
class this summer. I've had lots of fun learning all about the shutter speed, the aperture
and the ISO. It's crazy how many things go into getting a good photo.
And since my friend is getting married, we decided to go out
and shoot just for fun. I did tell her that I have NO experience whatsoever
so she wouldn't get to excited about the results haha...
but in the end the pics weren't too bad - plus they're incredibly
gorgeous people, that alone made the photos look great.

aren't they just adorable?

One semester closer to graduation

Well, I just finished another semester of school. I feel absolutely great
about this semester. I feel like I've accomplished so much...
I seriously cannot tell you how excited I am about the things that
I've learned, like book design and binding -  yes, I can use my own hands to make
a book! how awesome is that!?!
I'm so excited to practice my binding skills over the Summer!

Here's some pictures of the book binding process.
Sorry I didn't really document the whole thing, but I hope you get the idea :)
I also designed a 88-page/trader-size book for another class.
Our teacher gave us a manuscript and told us we could only use our own photos...
so I got to do some photography this semester
and I realized that I need to take some photography classes... lol

Regardless of that, I think my book turned out pretty well...
I can't post the whole thing but I pulled out a few spreads... check it out

Here's another project from the same class... this time we had to rebrand a restaurant
I chose my favorite (recently opened) Peruvian Restaurant.

So that's a little bit of what I did this semester :)

... can't wait for next fall!

Quote

I recently read this quote by President Thomas S. Monson
... best advice ever! I had to make this and put it in my living room :)

New calling x2

In less than a couple of months I have changed callings from being in the Nursery to becoming the new Assistant Camp Director in the Young Women.

Recently, I also got called to be the new Secretary for the Young Women in my wards (El Camino & CS1)

I have to admit that at first I was extremely scared but I think I'm handling this pretty well... as long as I don't have to give a super long talk or teach a lesson I think I'll do just fine :)

So anyway, as the assistant to the camp director I have certain duties to fulfill and one of them was to come up with this year's camp poster! woohooo!!

I was seriously SO excited to design this poster because this is what I love to do...in fact, this is what I do everyday... I design stuff... and although I mainly do it for school, I love it when I get to do something that I'm not getting graded on... or that feels like I have a real client for :)

So I came up with a few options and I finally narrowed down to two... and I just can't decide which one... I obviously asked for help from my hubby and the camp director but they couldn't decide either.

Now, I know nobody is going to read this by tomorrow, but I'll just post both of them here anyway and I guess I'll just have to choose one before I head to the printer tomorrow....

Oh by the way, our theme is centered on the scripture found in D&C 115:5 - we decided to have this "holy-wood" theme go with it and celebrate "star/celebrities" from the scriptures :)

That is all... and as you may have already noticed I had to change up
the layout of my blog in order to fit these pictures better :)
